An 80-year-old gogo arested for being in possession of over 162kg of dagga

IT’S hardly been a month since a councillor from the Mhlwazini area in Bergville disgraced the area when he was bust in Ladysmith for transporting several bags of dagga.
Now two other residents from another part of Bergville were caught on Tuesday for committing a similar offence.
An 80-year-old gogo and a woman aged 25 from Emmaus were arrested for being in possession of over 162kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R230 000.
Colonel Jay Naicker said the arrests were made when cops from Upper Tugela and Ladysmith Crime Intelligence conducted a joint crime prevention operation in the area.
“The two suspects were detained and charged for possession of dagga. They will appear in the Bergville Magistrates Court soon,” he said.
KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for their work.
“We will continue to secure our borders against criminal activities and put criminals behind bars. Drugs destroy lives and we will do everything within our control to remove them from our streets,” she said.
In another incident on Wednesday two suspects aged 33 and 35 were arrested in Phoenix for possession of suspected stolen property and armed robbery.
Naicker said: “Police recovered 692 boxes of cigarettes, two cellphones and one extended magazine with live ammunition.
“Both suspects sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.”
He said the su
