Cape Town (Nyanga Cluster) police Arrested 400+ suspects


For the past week the Nyanga Cluster Policing Precinct has apprehended more than 400 suspects. These suspects were apprehended during various operations conducted in Bishop Lavis, Elsies River, Guguletu, Manenberg, Nyanga and Philippi East.
The arrests and successes achieved during the operations are as follows:
  • 186 suspects were apprehended during searches conducted at 94 drug houses as well as during stop-and- searches,  
  • 51 shebeen operations were conducted which led to 12 people arrested for dealing in liquor without licences and 361 229 litres of liquor confiscated,
  • 11 tracing operations were conducted and 53 wanted suspects arrested,
  • 30 suspects were apprehended for crimes committed against women and children,
  • 15 stolen vehicles were recovered in Bishop Lavis, Guguletu, Nyanga and Philippi East,
  • 1 228 visits were conducted at spaza shops, two at second hand goods shops and 53 Vehicle Control Points,
  • Some suspects were apprehended for cases ranging from murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), attempted murders, robbery and other various cases.
 The following were also confiscated:
  • 260g of Heroine
  • 822 units of Tik
  • 505.25 Mandrax tablets
  • 82595g of Dagga
Six firearms were also confiscated and eight suspects apprehended for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Two firearms were confiscated in Nyanga and three were confiscated in Bishop Lavis, Elsies River, Guguletu and Philippi East.
These successes were a result of the members’ diligence and vigilance and some were through information shared by responsible community members.
Some suspects appeared in different courts during the week but most of them will appear in different magistrates’ courts on 19 October 2015 to face various charges.
