As if being sacked by Metro FM was not enough, Sibusiso Leope, also known as DJ Sbu, is leaving his hit television show Friends Like These after 10 years.
SABC1 said Leope's departure was part of "a much-needed revamp". The current season of the game show ends early next year. The channel said it would introduce a fresh new face or two in the revamped show.
SABC TV channels head of public relations Zandile Nkonyeni said the new season of the game show is scheduled to start early next year and it will also spot a new look and feel, adopt new graphics and logo.
She said: "SABC1 is sad to part ways with DJ Sbu after so many years of working together.
"He has grown with the channel over the years and the time to move on has come. The channel will be resuming the process of identifying suitable replacement(s) to steer the show to greater heights soon."
Leope said that leaving Friends Like These would give him a chance to focus on bigger challenges such as business and community projects. He said it was time for him to pass the baton to a fresh and young person.
"I am humbled to have worked with Urban Brew, BBC and SABC1 to create such a successful game show. I am excited about my future endeavours in the business world. It's going to be an exciting 2016. I'm looking forward to seeing the show grow," he said.
Leope added that he would still be part of the show from the sidelines and give advice where needed to ensure that the show remained the success that it has been.
Leope has been caught in controversy since he was fired from his radio show for advertising his controversial energy drink at the Metro FM Music Awards earlier this year.
