DRIVERS are always being warned not to drive while drunk or tired – but now there’s something new to worry about!
Eastern Cape motorists are being warned to stop stealing kisses and taking photos behind the steering-wheel.
Some people may laugh at the transport department’s social media campaign, but the department said it’s getting an important message across.
“Musa ukuncamisana xa ukuquba/Don’t kiss when driving” reads a poster featuring the face of transport MEC Weziwe Tikana.
Transport spokesman Ncedo Kumbaca said the low budget campaign will run through the festive season.
He said it was a hit with motorists and was getting the message across.
The aim is to alert motorists and commuters to behaviour that can cause road accidents.
Kumbaca said the department had been monitoring lifestyles, specially those of younger drivers.
He said: “People taking selfies and always updating their whereabouts while driving are at risk of crashing their cars. This needs a new approach and new messages.”
