FOR many years Lebo Mbele tried to keep her daughter’s relationship with her boyfriend peaceful.
But on Tuesday Lebo paid for it with her life when the boyfriend shot her dead before turning the gun on himself!
The 50-year-old from Ecaleni section in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni was watching TV when her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Bhekumuzi Radede (28), killed her.
Lebo’s husband, Jan Masango (50), said: “I left my wife in the sitting-room and went outside with my friends.
“Bhekumuzi arrived with groceries for a cleansing ceremony we had planned for Lebo’s brother, who died last year. I told him to take the groceries into the house.
“Suddenly I heard my grandchildren screaming, which was followed by three gunshots. When I checked I saw my wife lying on a blood-soaked sofa. She was dead.
“In the other corner of the room Bhekumuzi was also lying dead in a pool of blood with his gun in his hands.”
Neighbours called the police and an ambulance but the paramedics declared Lebo and Bhekumuzi dead at the scene.
Jan said his wife’s daughter, Mabonina Makhomboti (22), was in an abusive relationship with Bhekumuzi.
Mabonina confirmed that her boyfriend had been an abusive man.
“I met him when we were at high school. I had three children with him but I was always abused,” she said.
“I dumped him two years ago but he kept on coming here, begging me to take him back. The only reason I saw him was because of our children.
“He thought my mother was the one who made me leave him. He was bitter.”
Lebo’s son, Sakkie Mbele (29), described her as a quiet woman who loved her family.
Police spokeswoman Constable Patricia Mgijimi confirmed that police were investigating.
