LAST Wednesday the Red Ants evicted gogo Belina Pepenene (76) from her Snake Park house.
The Soweto woman said her things were thrown outside and she was treated like a thug.
“I live in fear. I don’t know when they are going to come back and kick me out again.”
Neighbour Kathrin Shabalala (38) said Belina bought the empty stand from Jabulani Sithole (48) in 2000 for R8 000. They wrote the agreement on paper and it was captured in an affidavit signed at Doornkop cop shop.
Belina’s daughter Elizabeth Mokheti (45) said: “The title deed was in Jabulani’s name so he gave it to me while we waited for the change of ownership.”
But then he disappeared.
Meanwhile Belina and Elizabeth got an RDP house. “We made upgrades,” Elizabeth said.
“We were shocked last year when Jabulani demanded his title deed and house. He said he wanted R30 000 or he would take us to court. We decided to go to court. We produced documentation and showed we had the title deed, but were told to move.”
Jabulani told Daily Sun: “I was ready to change ownership in 2012. It would cost R5 000. Elizabeth said I should pay it from the R8 000. I told her I would give her money back but she refused.
“I went the legal route.”
The family wants to contest the eviction but lack the money to go to the high court.
