Greedy businessman Wanted his Partner to Claim R34 million Insurance


A DURBAN businessman who allegedly wanted his partner dead so he could have access to insurance money has been arrested.
The greedy businessman allegedly wanted his partner dead so he could be the sole beneficiary of a R34 million insurance payout, but his plan did not go well.
According to the Hawks, the businessman allegedly hired a man to assist him find a hitman who would kill his partner.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi of the Hawks said after they received a tip-off, they involved the SAPS crime intelligence department.
“An undercover cop approached the man and presented himself as the man for the job and a deal was concluded,” said Mulaudzi.
The Hawks then staged the murder of the target.
“Within 30 minutes of the supposed murder, an amount of R10 000 was paid for the job done. The man was then arrested and he led the Hawks to the house of his boss (the businessman),” Mulaudzi said.
This was allegedly his second attempt to have his partner killed.
Mulaudzi said on 2 July, the victim was followed by two men after a conference in Drummond to his home, where he was shot several times in what looked like a failed hijacking. The victim survived the attack. The businessman again sent three assailants to kill the victim’s father-in-law but the man managed to wrestle the firearm away from his attackers and they fled, Mulaudzi said.
The businessman, and the man who allegedly assisted him recruit a hitman, will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow. They face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as possession of police equipment.
