HE fried potato chips for the whole family before he left with his cousin.
But that was the last meal Aphiwokuhle Sinuka (25), from Bochabela in Mangaung, shared with his family.
The young man was killed for his Nike takkies on Sunday.
Aphiwokuhle was coming from a tavern with a friend after they had gone out to celebrate his new job.
“He was happy to be appointed by a local company after searching for work for a long time,” said friend Sinethemba Ntsizakalo.
“We were having fun when Aphiwokuhle told me that he needed to rest.
“On our way home, we met up with a group of men.
“Out of nowhere, I was hit with a brick on my face and Aphiwokuhle was hit with a bottle on the head.
“I was with my girlfriend and told her to run for safety.
“I managed to run and hide.
“I thought Aphiwokuhle would also hide.
“I was shocked in the morning when my neighbour told me he was dead.”
The dead man’s uncle, Harry Ntozini (54), said: “A passerby saw my nephew lying dead under a tree the next morning.
“Aphiwokuhle had stab wounds on his chest,” said Harry.
“I was so hurt when I saw his body covered in foil. His Nike takkies and cellphone were gone.”
Police spokesman Constable Joy Xaba said: “A case of murder and robbery was opened. No suspects have been arrested yet.”
