Londoners will on Friday, October 23, gather outside the South African High Commission in London in solidarity with students in South Africa protesting against fee hikes.
“We act in solidarity with the South African students whose bravery and commitment have inspired us all,” they said.
The London march is expected to start next to Russel Square in London at 10.30am, then proceed to the Embassy. The second assembly point will be in Trafalgar Square.
They have joined the steady stream of international support pouring in for the ‘National Shutdown’. University of London wrote a letter to express their unity with the students.
Their School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) on Tuesday addressed the letter to the protesting students, staff and their supporters at the Witwaterstrand University‚ the University of Cape Town‚ Stellenbosch University and Rhodes University.
The students of SOAS stated they have had similar experiences and have reclaimed their university.
Support has also come from students in countries such as Germany and Cameroon, taking to social media to express their support.
