ACTOR Rantebeng Makapan is allegedly involved in a war over chieftaincy.
The star, who plays Morapedi in Muvhango, is from Makapanstad Village, in North West.
Sources claimed he’s at the centre of a dispute between tribal councillors.
The throne was left vacant when his dad, Kgosi Motshegwa Hendrick Makapan, died last year.
Insiders within the tribal community claimed after Kgosi’s death, the actor was supposed to have been crowned as the new chief. But there’s a dispute among headmen about it.
One source told Sunday Sun: “Some people want Rantebeng to be the new chief, while others feel he’s still young and being on Muvhango would derail the vision of the community.”
Another insider said: “His celebrity status can contribute to the community. But these headsmen are jealous of him and actually want to be crowned as chiefs themselves.”
Rantebeng said: “I’m not allowed to speak to the media without permission. Speak to Bakgatla Ba Mosehla (the tribe) regarding that.”
When Sunday Sun did this, tribal authority nduna, Lentsoe Makapan, a cousin of Rantebeng, said: “Rantebeng is the right person to talk to as he’s the spokesperson of the royal family.”
