AFRO-pop singer Ntando Bangani is known for his electrifying performances.
But it seems this past weekend he wasn’t even switched on.
His performance was so bad fans booed him off the stage!
It happened at the Miss Amathole Heritage Festival at the University of Fort Hare in Alice, Eastern Cape on Saturday.
Ntando, a favourite at Amathole Municipality events, usually receives a warm reception from his fans but this time around he nearly got a hot klap.
He was booked to perform alongside Nathi, The Soil and Siphokazi. The other entertainers had the crowd eating from the palms of their hands, but all hell broke lose as Ntando lost his touch.
Dressed in his traditional Xhosa attire, the Ndiyamthanda singer allegedly simply did not deliver.
The audience even started rumbling, saying he didn’t rehearse for the show.
He only sang six songs and could not finish any of them. And it sounded like he didn’t know his own songs.
He also barely danced.
Soon the audience started chanting: “Singakubetha xa sithanda – we’ll beat you up if and when we want to.”
MC Umhlobo Wenene’s Bulelani Koyo told the audience Ntando’s performance experienced a technical glitch, which the singer confirmed.
When he announced the end of his performance the crowd responded by booing him.
Music fan Nobuzwe Stishi said: “He was not here on Friday when Siphokazi was rehearsing. He didn’t practise. Because we are in the Eastern Cape, he thinks he can do as he pleases.”
Ntando told Daily Sun: “I was performing with a back track and when you perform with it you don’t really practise.
“I’ve been doing this for over 10 years and it has never failed me before. The people who were playing my CDs somehow jammed them. I feel really bad about the performance and apologise to my fans. If I could re-do it I would,” said Ntando.
