The Free State restaurant accused of racism by Afro-pop star Kelly Khumalo has offered an apology to her.
Sowetan reported yesterday that Antoinette Roos of The Cabin Stall in Clocolan, near Ladybrand, called Khumalo a "liar" after the singer complained that she was told black people were not allowed into the establishment.
Roos also maintained that Khumalo owed her an apology.
Things changed overnight as Anja Roos, who identified herself as Roos's daughter, extended an olive branch on Khumalo's Instagram account. She said they were sorry and assured Khumalo they were not racists.
"We are very sorry if you felt discriminated against. We apologise if there was a misunderstanding on the day you came to have breakfast," she wrote.
Khumalo accepted the apology by posting on her Instagram account: "Apology accepted. Apart from my experience I've also learned that racism is still an issue in our country, so many people have shared their experiences and I sense so much hurt and anger . It is really time to move on and represent the rainbow nation that we are."
Roos's daughter told Sowetan that on the Sunday of Khumalo's visit most of the staff abandoned their duties and posed for pictures with her and that put pressure on the kitchen staff.
". We have a very good relationship with our staff and clients no matter what the colour of their skin."
She emphasised that whoever made a comment to Khumalo was not the owner.
Khumalo's phone rang unanswered.
