FOR 14 years, Peter Maruping’s tenants were polite and paid their rent on time.
But when the 46-year-old from Malvern in Joburg gave them notice three months ago, they didn’t take the news well.
A violent fight broke out on Sunday night and Peter ended up in hospital, while his tenants continued living in the comfort of his house!
Peter’s sister, Mosidi Sithole (50) said for the past three months, her brother has been telling the tenants to move out because he wants his children to move into their rooms.
“His children are older now and need space,” she said.
When the tenants wouldn’t leave, Peter went to the police station to report the matter.
“Police came to the house on several occasions but the tenants refused to move,” said Mosidi.
Mosidi claimed the two tenants approached Peter on Sunday night and demanded to talk. They said he was disrespectful for telling them to move out and then allegedly assaulted him.
“My brother told me he fell to the floor as the two men continued stomping on him and punching him.
“He was rescued by a neighbour who jumped over the fence when he heard his cries for help,” she said.
“I am disappointed and hurt. The tenants were like part of our family but they turned out to be hyenas hiding in sheep’s skin!”
She said they reported the incident to the cops, who said a case could only be opened once Peter gave a statement.
“The day he is discharged I will take him to the police station to press charges against these tenants,” said Mosidi, adding that she would get the community to evict the tenants if the police couldn’t.
Tenant Besta Ngwenya confirmed that Peter had earlier served them with a letter of notice to move out of the house.
