IT’S not unusual to see pigeons feeding with chickens.
But when one of the birds has a R10 note and muthi tied to its foot, people get very scared!
This was the scary sight chicken sellers found at their stalls at the Thulamahashe Shopping Mall, outside Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, on Thursday. The mysterious muthi bird terrified them and now they fear for the future of their businesses.
Patrick Mpandze (38) said when they chased the pigeons away, one bird was clearly not afraid and remained behind.
“It continued wandering around, eating the mealie meal and mash left on the ground for the chickens. We were very frightened when we saw the muthi and the R10 note,” he said.
“We eventually killed and burned it. We were all terrified of the bird.
“All the vendors feared our customers would no longer want to buy our chickens. It took a lot of courage for us to catch the mysterious pigeon.”
Barber Lazarus Mnisi (40) said every morning, he finds kak and muthi outside his shop. Traditional healer Dr Annuary Ndlovu said pigeons or doves could be used for luck or wealth but these days, some evil people used them to take the hard-earned money of others. “Kak and muthi are also dangerous. I advise the vendors to consult a sangoma for help,” he said.
