Professor Frank Graewe is well known for his work on the renowned, successful penile surgery that was performed earlier this year.
Prof Graewe, who serves as Head of the Craniofacial Unit at Tygerberg Academic Hospital and Head of the Plastic Surgery Division at Stellenbosch University, allowed News24 cameras into an operating room in Tygerberg Hospital in the Western Cape where one-year-old Ashbrite Kafumbe was operated on.
Kafumbe suffers from Apert syndrome, where premature fusions of certain skull bones do not allow for normal brain development.
During the operation Prof Graewe and his team reopened the closed skull sutures.
