Durban – ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa on Saturday said opposition party, the DA, likely possesses material of the white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) at their offices.
Kodwa was reaction to the social media storm that broke out where senior DA Member of Parliament, Diane Kohler Barnard, re-posted pro-PW Botha comments on Facebook.
She shared a Facebook post by journalist Paul Kirk, in which he declared: “Please come back PW Botha - you were far more honest than any of these [African National Congress] rogues, and you provided a far better service to the public...".
Kodwa went on to say: “DA reaction to [the] racist statement by Kohler Barnard confirms what she said. She is simply expressing the views of the DA in public. If anybody were to raid the properties of DA leaders or their offices, you are likely to find literature and material of the Ku Klux Klan. What this reaction means, is that the DA believes apartheid was better than a democratic dispensation.”
Reacting to the statement, DA national spokesperson Phumzile Van Damme vehemently denied the remarks.
“The DA is the most diverse political party in the country. We have public representatives at all levels that include all races. The ANC is a party that allows criminality to thrive. They are constantly allowing their members who have criminal records to still represent them. Since Mmusi Maimane took over as leader in May, our party has only grown bigger. We are uniting SA.”
Kohler Barnard has been moved to shadow deputy minister of public works in a reshuffle that saw several big names moving within the party.
