National police spokesperson, Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said the man was trying to smuggle cocaine worth R500,000 out of the country.

"The police official, who was conducting stop-and-search duties at immigration, approached the man as he was about to board a flight to Hong Kong. Not being satisfied with the man's responses to questions, the policeman called for his luggage off the plane. He found cocaine hidden in the soles of brand new shoes in the luggage and concealed in a laptop bag."

He added that the suspect was travelling on an Australian passport.
