Yesterday, Greytown police and Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit arrested two suspects aged 20 and 33 at a Greytown illegal liquor outlet. Police conducted an intelligence driven operation with the help of the canines which led to the arrests and the recovery of drugs. Mandrax, heroin and ecstacy tablets were recovered and seized from the suspects’ possession. The value of the drugs is an estimated R35-000,00 and liquor valued at R30-000,00 was also seized. The suspects will be charged for drug possession and dealing in liquor. They will appear in the Greytown Magistrates’ Court soon.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner commended the members for the arrests and seizure of drugs. “We will keep an eye on all the illegal outlets and make sure that we charge them accordingly. All liquor business-minded people are urged to apply for liquor licenses so that they can trade legally. We will shut down all places that deals and associates with drug trade,” she said.
