#FeesMustFall: LET THE RICH FUND FREE EDUCATION - SANCO!

THE SOUTH African National Civics Organisation (Sanco) has proposed that a special wealth tax be put in place to fund education.
While it welcomed the 0% increase in student fees for 2016, Sanco said a tax should be imposed on the very wealthy.
"Recent statistics indicate that there are 530 000 high earners who earn on average R1.2m a year. If a wealth tax of 2% of their salaries can be taxed, it will raise an amount of R12bn to fund free education," said Sanco national spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu.
He said the call for free education was not new as students and parents from poor communities had been wanting government to intervene for a long time.
Students nationwide have been protesting against the proposed fee hikes for 2016 since last week.
Zuma announced that there would be no increase for 2016 after meeting with student and university leadership yesterday.
