IN THE Eastern Cape kasis, gogos are being targeted by thugs and some of them even get killed.
But last Tuesday in Kwazakhele, gogos showed off their fighting skills.
They fought one another with sticks.
Residents were happy to see the gogos’ fighting skills.
Some even cheered, shouting: “Don’t mess with my gogo.”
The event was part of their celebration after they successfully unified three gogos’ organisations around the kasi.
The new organisation is called Kwazakhele Hub in Sport.
Landezwa Luvuno (50), chairwoman of the hub, said: “The oldest member is age 84. We still need more elderly people to join us.
“Our aim is to gain respect in the area. There are still many elderly people who live in an abusive environment.”
