THE body of eight-year-old Ntando Khakudi, who went missing on Saturday, has been found in a river.
The horrific discovery at SNS River in Mamelodi East, Tshwane was made by a passerby who alerted the cops and informed residents, who were still searching for her.
The little girl was found with her hands and legs tied together.
According to witnesses, it appeared she had been raped and strangled.
Horrified community members vowed to hunt down the person who killed Ntando.
The girl’s grieving aunt, Sarah Mthambo (48), said Ntando was last seen playing with her friends at Mthunzini Park in SNS on Saturday morning. She said when she went out to call the girl, she was gone.
Residents were still searching for the girl the following afternoon when they heard that her lifeless body was lying dead in the river.
“This is heartbreaking and painful. I hope the person who did this is caught and pays for his evil deeds,” said Sarah.
Ntando’s heartbroken mum, Rosa (43), said: “I want to know who did this to my daughter.”
She described Ntando as a loving girl who loved to play but made time for her school work.
She was in grade 2 at Motheo Primary School.
One of the residents, who didn’t want to be named, said: “I believe the person who did this was known to the little girl.”
Gauteng police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, confirmed that a case of murder had been opened and said police were investigating.
“It’s alleged that the little girl was raped but we will wait for the post mortem to confirm that,” he said.
